BASS
DVL is arguably the best bass fishery in southern California with this week being the best week anglers have seen in years. Reports of 20 to 40 fish days have been prevalent for catch and release fisherman. Not only has quantity been outstanding, but quality fish between 4 and 7 pounds has been the standard. Bass have been biting a wide variety of baits including fluke and scrounger combos, Senkos, drop shot finesse worms, jigs, lizards and brush hogs. There have also been a deluge of reports stemming from a wide open crank and jerk bait bite early in the morning. Jeff Alley and mike Cochran of Palm Desert released total of 33 fish ranging from 2 to 5 pounds fishing the west end of the lake with lizards. Elliott Mark Lewis Jr and his son Devontea of Beaumont caught some bass from shore fishing with a Castaic shad ranging from 3 to 4 pounds. The best report of the week came from shore angler Shawn Cooley of Quail Valley who caught 100 fish in 6 hours ranging from 4 to 7 pounds using cool baits at the corner of the east dam.

TROUT
DVL tout have been MIA resulting in shore and boat anglers leaving empty handed. Nightcrawlers, Powerbait, Powerworms, and mini Jigs have been the most consistent baits for trout. Those few who have caught trout this week found success on the east dam in 3- 10 feet of water.

STRIPER
There were no striper reports this week. The usual baits include swimbaits and topwater plugs.

CATFISH
The Catfish bite has been wide open at DVL. Cats have been biting near the marina, the east dam and, by the rock quarry. Mackerel, anchovies, and shrimp are the best baits. Sammy Mendoza and Daemi Beltran of Corona caught their biggest cats at 8.64 and 8.93 pounds fishing from shore with nightcrawlers and Hogwild. Mike Ekema of Hemet and Tom Ferguson of Beaumont each caught their limit of cats in the marina cove, but each stringer maxed out the marina scale.

PANFISH
Small blue gill have been seen in shallow water along the dams, but the bite has not surfaced. As water temperature increases so will the panfish bite.
