Fish Report for 9-16-2020
Lake is Very Clear and Oligotrophic
9-16-2020
OR Department of Fish & Wildlife Staff
Fourmile Lake was stocked prior to Labor Day with monster hatchery trout. Water temperatures along the shoreline were very warm so stocked fish will move to deeper, colder water. Fishing will be slow for 18- to 20-inch trophy, stocked rainbow trout with the occasional brook trout or lake trout.
Look for brook and lake trout cruising the shoreline looking for a place to spawn especially in the northwest corner of the lake. Trophy rainbow trout are massive this year averaging four pounds and they also taste great.
Best fishing is from a boat. Launching bigger boats might be challenging, as there is not a boat ramp or dock. Be prepared to get wet!
There is ample room for fishing from the bank and many areas for camping. Also, be prepared for the afternoon wind coming off Mt. Mcloughlin that makes fishing difficult from a boat.
The lake is very low at 10 percent full, based on the 15,600 acre feet taken out for irrigation. The lake is very clear and oligotrophic. Most rainbow trout will suspend at around 15 feet of water looking for water temperatures in the 58-62 degrees range.
