Lake Pardee Fish Report

3-27-2009
Fred Dorman

The extended forecast calls for some scattered clouds, blue skies and temps in the 70s for at least the next five days. Water temperatures remain the same, 56 degrees at surface and 48 degrees at the 20 foot mark. The water visibility is again clear to 20 feet down with no debris visible. The water level has risen about a foot this week and now Lake level is 4 to 6 feet below spill and edging up slowly.

BANK FISHING ---- Continued great weather greets those dunking lines from the shore. The bite is still good from shore from the weekend plant but falls off a bit towards weeks end. The popular spots continue to be Tom Sawyer Island, under the foot bridge, the Launch Ramp, Rainbow Point and the bank behind the EBMUD boathouse. Sliding sinker set ups are widely used, however silver/blue Kastmasters and black woolly buggers are also very successful right after a plant. White power eggs, maggots and power worms are the best sellers at the Marina, with night crawlers and yellow power bait also popular.

TROLLERS----Trollers are working the River arm at Columbia Gulch or above. Some Kokanee caught again this week but info on size, depth and hardware were closely guarded secrets. However I'd try some pink or tiger Uncle Larry's lures behind a silver Sep's dodger at 20 feet down on the downriggers. Hope to hear more reports about Kokanee this weekend. Trolling for trout has been average this week according reports but should improve now that the weather has stabilized. They are still catching fish but working hard to put them in the box. Most are heading upstream but I did see a few working the Narrows and Mel's Cove. The Trout are still shallow; don't go too deep most hookups are at 5 to 15 feet. Scented night crawlers behind small flashers or dodgers on down riggers or behind 3 to 5 colors of lead core have been the most successful. Some Trollers have been tying off and still fishing in the coves along the eastern shore and upstream and getting limits that way.

RECENT SUCCESS STORIES---Cathy Yamada-Chow of Sacramento got this great looking 5 lb rainbow (using unknown super secret mystery bait) in the Recreation Area. Congratulation-great job! Remember to stop by the Marina and share your photos and tales so we can spice up our website with your handsome likeness, like Cathy's.

To date 35,000 lbs of good size Trout have been planted by Lake Pardee Inc. and the California Department of Fish and Game with more plants scheduled in the near future.
