Puerto Morelos Fish Report- The Marina El Cid, Cancun- Cozumel Area
3-26-2009
Larry Edwards
The sailfish bite has started for the season and the only downside
has been the heavy winds over the past couple of weeks. I talked
with the GM, Armando Gutierrez, this morning, and he said the fishing
has been very good for March but the winds have made it very
difficult for many of the days and we have had to cancel many trips.
When the weather has permitted, the 6-8-hour charters have had some
fine opportunities to land a sailfish. He added, "we had three 8-
hour charters that landed a total of 6 sailfish for their efforts"
this past week and now, we are just waiting for a break from the
March winds.
Overall counts for 12 days fished reflected 6 sailfish, 13 king
mackerel, 6 dorado, 1 barracuda, 1 shark and 1 amberjack.
PM Climate: Partly cloudy, but windy days, temps from 70 nights to
88 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: From moderate to rough seas and several port closure
days. Temps are 79-80 throughout the area.
Best Bait/Lure: The sails were active on the rigged trolling baits,
(ballyhoo).
