Crane Has Been Decent
7-30-2020
Fly and Field Outfitters
Crane has been a decent dry dropper fishery as of late. The weather has continued to warm up the reservoir which in turn has pushed the fish into the cooler channels. Damsels, terrestrials, and attractor dry flies are your best bet up there with a dropper roughly 1-3 feet off the back. The longer the dropper the more difficult it is to cast at times but it is a deadly tactic to have in your quiver. When dries aren’t working for you, don’t be scared to switch over to an intermediate line or indicator rig for retrieving balanced leeches, chironomid patterns, or damsel nymphs underneath the surface. Focus on the channels and the springs, as cooler water is going to be key this time of year and into fall. Fish your nymphs deep in the heat of day making sure to be a foot or so off the bottom. Crane has plenty of sun exposure this time of year so if you’re looking for a new sunshirt we have the new FFO Founded Sun Hoodies in stock and waiting to be put to the test.
