Lower Deschutes in The Best Shape in Years

7-16-2020
Fly and Field Outfitters

The Lower Deschutes looks to be in the best shape we’ve seen in years. Flows have been fairly consistent, the PMD and caddis hatches or coming on, and we’re not seeing the algae bloom that had become the norm before the floods of spring 2019. We are catching a ton of solid, healthy redbands, seeing strong caddis hatches and chasing big fish in tight eddies sipping little mayflies. We have reason for hope that the 40 miles from Warm Springs to Maupin will stay really good this summer, and even might see a decent run of summer steelhead. Stay posted on that one.

Suggested Dries: Tan Henry’s Fork Caddis #14-18, A/C Caddis #14-18, Edible Emerger #14-18, Sparkle Dun PMD #16-18, Tilt Wing PMD #16-18, Parachute PMD #16-18, Parachute Adams #16-18, Purple Haze #16-18

Suggested Nymphs: Jigged CDC Pheasant Tail #14-16, Jigged Tungsten Hare’s Ear #14-16, Perdigon #16-18, Guide’s Choice Hare’s Ear #14-18, Tan BH Sparkle Pupa #14-18, Olive Soft Hackle #14-18, Soft Hackle Hare’s Ear #14-18, Red Two Bit Hooker #16-20, Red Copper John #14-18, Psycho Prince #14-18
