Lake Hours: 6:45am to 4:30pm

Weather: The weather was much colder this week with highs in the mid 50's and periodic storm conditions.

Stop by the Marina and tell us about your fish!

BASS

The frigid weather and hard rain kept folks at home with only a few die hard anglers fishing DVL this week. The lack of reports did not diminish evidence that DVL continues to be an unshakable bass fishery. Swimbaits, jerk baits, Carolina rigged watermelon brush hogs, drop shot rigged morning dawn finesse worms, smoking shad flukes on underspins, and wacky rigged Senkos were all reported as impressive baits. The east dam and the inlet were reported as the best spots to target bass. Stephen Kosal of Ontario released a 20 pound limit of bass fishing with a Z plug on the east dam.

TROUT

The heavy rain this week discouraged anglers but did not dampen trout fishing. Shore anglers as well as boaters faired well with big fish and lots of limits reported. Nightcrawlers, mini jigs, Powerbait, and jointed Rapalas were reported options for trout chasers. The east dam and the third cove to the right of the marina were both reliable locations for rainbows. Dustin Stevenson of Winchester caught a 6.87 pound trout fishing with a nightcrawlers near the east dam. Rick Esparza of Hemet caught a 5.44 pound trout fishing in the third cove to the right of the marina with powerbait. Chris Rhodes of Tustin caught a 6.5 pound trout fishing with nightcrawlers along the east dam. Four year old Dylan Abel caught a 3.37 pound trout fishing with powerbait near the marina. Martin Bands of Escondido caught the biggest trout of the week at 8.10 pounds fishing with a Rapala along the north shore.

STRIPER
Striper reports improved this week. Floating or slow sink swimbaits remain the best method for striper anglers. The inlet tower and the east dam were the most frequently reported striper spots. Louie Vega of Hemet caught a 15 pound striper fishing with a swimbait outside the inlet tower. Stephan Kosal of Ontario caught five fish totaling 40 pounds fishing with a Z plug on the east dam.

CATFISH
No catfish were reported this week. The usual baits have been mackerel, shrimp, or anchovies. The inlet tower, the third cove to the right of the marina, and the quarry are common holds for catfish.

PANFISH
No panfish were reported this week. The panfish bite has been slow and will probably remain that way until surface temperatures increase in the spring. Fishing with worms or jigs along the dams has been the typical routine for catching panfish.
