Mazatlan Fish Report- The Aries Sportfishing Fleet

2-12-2009
Larry Edwards

The full moon and falling water temperatures have taken a real toll for Mazatlan fishing and once again, the skippers are searching far & wide for the offshore bite. As the cooling trend continues, which is typical for this time of year, look for a showing of swordfish and mako sharks to show up in the mix of catches. Overall counts for 26 days fished reflected 11 stripers, 2 dorado and 1 hammerhead shark for the offshore fishing and 35 mojarres, 20 cochitos and 6 jack cravelle for 3 inshore super panga fishing days.

Mazatlan Climate: Mostly sunny and warm days, temps from 50 at night to 83 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Water temps fell this past week to 70-71 inshore and 72-73 offshore, and, along with the full moon conditions, has taken it's toll on the catching.

Best Fishing Area: The fish are widely scattered and there is no concentration in any given area.

Best Lure/Bait: Rigged mullet were still working well for the billfish as was live bait, too, when available.
