Mazatlan Fish Report- The Aries Sportfishing Fleet

1-15-2009
Larry Edwards

Very slow angler activity this past week at Mazatlan, along with the full moon and cooler water, has taken it's toll on the offshore fishing. Hopefully, as the moon gets darker, the offshore action will rejuvenate. Overall counts for 10 days fished reflected 6 stripers and 4 dorado and the inshore super pangas fishing 7 days reflected only 2 sierra, 20 cochitos, 54 pargo, 1 hammerhead shark, 1 dorado, 1 corvina, 8 toro, (jack cravelle) and 45 mojarras.

Mazatlan Climate: Partly cloudy days with temps from 57 nights to 84 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: The water temps are starting their seasonal decline and the temps are now at 72 inshore and 73 offshore, but good clarity and calm waters.

Best Fishing Area: There was no special direction for the offshore waters as the fish are widely scattered throughout the area.

Best Bait/Lure: All of the billfish were taken on rigged baits.
