Baum Still Cold and Slow

I’m still waiting for the winter bite at Baum Lake to turn on. This last Friday produced a few small browns for Frank Galusha and myself while fishing the outlet flow of the powerhouse at the southwest end of the lake.

Frank had luck with meal worms drifted along the bottom while I found success with a green pheasant tail nymph.  We moved from the powerhouse to try the main bay point next to the ramp and could not get even a nibble trying flies, bait and numerous lures for about an hour. Other anglers fishing the area were also finding tough going just scratching out a fish here and there. One thing for sure, the trout are there and it is just a matter of time before the bite turns on.

This entire week should be cold with snow in the area off and on so it is a great time to head down to Sacramento for the International Sportsman’s Expo running this Thursday thru Sunday at Cal Expo. If you make it to the show stop by the Sportfishingreport.com / Norcalfishreport.com booth in the main fishing hall and say hello
