As advertised the ride across was sublime. Flat calm seas made an easy time of it. Earned over many years of battling the seven seas this stellar group of friends well understood the significance of such fortune. Celebration was the theme. Celebration of friendships that began in many cases 40 plus years past surviving the test of time. Regardless of time however the common bond of Humboldt State unites these individuals in their passion and respect for the ocean and its resources. In many cases these researchers are on the cutting edge of fisheries management focusing on sustainability. For that we are unspeakably grateful. Research and fisheries management that focuses on responsible, sustainable harvest is right up our alley.

Back to the celebration sundown found one and all energized and sharing a warmth of sentiment that only the final, perfect hours can elicit. Recognizing that such perfection out here does not often happen by chance we shared in the celebratory atmosphere thankful to have a hand in the success. Huge saludos and gratitude from all of us to Chartermaster Andrew Hampton and the entire Humboldt Fishin’ Lumberjack group.

Final voyage photo rightly features the “unicorn fish” of the trip. This 103 pound Opah fell for a mid afternoon, deep fished, Colt Sniper. Captain Ryan Browne and Steve Kramer shared bragging rights. What a beautiful catch that made for extraordinary table fare. Delicious!!!!!
