We wound down the voyage with a few tuna here and few there focusing again on quality rather than quantity. In the grand cathedral north, a setting so spectacular it defies description, we rolled with the punches enjoying time at the rail with friends while honing our angling skills. Granted this style of fishing isn’t for everyone. Long stretches at the rail awaiting one or two golden opportunities, if any, during a morning or afternoon presents a challenge both physically and mentally. But overall that set up is what the mystical outside island is all about. It is a real challenge, and is meant to be; high risk high reward.
To be certain Isla Guadalupe is not a fishing destination for the faint of mind or heart. Upon venturing a trip west anglers must take this into account. Hope for the best of course but plan for a grind. More often than not out here success does not come easy. Oh but when it does how sweet it is. Overall results this voyage definitely fall into that category.
Photo today features yet another long time Royal Star veteran and friend from way back in the 90’s. Lannie Woulff’s results are an ideal example of the ideas stated above. “It only takes one”; in this case a beautiful, 48 pound class Guadalupe yellowtail!
