Klamath River Fish Report

12-5-2008

Water Conditions:

Flows are right around 1,340 cfs out of Iron Gate dam. By the Seiad Valley it is at 1,740 cfs, while Orleans is at 2,030 cfs.

There are good numbers of steelhead -- both half-pounders and adults -- spread throughout the Klamath system, from Iron Gate all the way down to the mouth.

Some of the best fishing right now is on the upper Klamath below Iron Gate Dam, where drift boat anglers are hooking good numbers of both half-pounders and adult steelhead.

Fishing Conditions:

Conditions are good throughout the Klamath River system, and fish are spread out all over the place. December through February is the best time of year for the Upper Klamath River near Iron Gate, where drift boat anglers are already finding good numbers of half-pounders and small (3-5 lb) adult steelhead.

Today we worked our way up the line. We were looking for school size Tuna and kelps hopefully holding Dorado. We got into a stop early this morning on little Tuna and Yellowtail. The problem was everything was about 6 lbs. Needless to say we did not stay very long. We worked our way outside and up and found numerous large kelps .
