Big Bear Lake Fishing Report

We are seeing Trout Schooling Patterns typical for this time of year. Smaller schools scattered from the West Public Launch westward to the Buoy Line. Also The bite is definitely turning on for both Trollers and Shoreline anglers.

Along the North Shore anglers using Carolina rigs with a 3 to 4 foot leader or Slip Bobber set up with Power bait or Night Crawlers are producing from the Red House and East up to Grays Landing.

Another "Early Morning - Sunrise" technique for Bankies is Jigging from the Old Dam to the Buoy Line using Berkley Mice Tails in Bubblegum and Red Head w/Chartreuse Tail patterns or Nightcrawlers. Anglers using this technique have seen lots of nice , fat, hold-overs taken from that area from either on the North or South Shore. But this bite shuts off around 9:00a.m. and will pick up again around 5 or 6 pm.

Trollers and Drifters are having good success running "Dead Center" from the Buoy Line to the mouth of Papoose Bay at depths about 10 to 20 feet down drifting a crawler on a wedding ring harness or trolling a Needlefish in Pearl Bikini and Shiny Watermelon. The usual circuits around Trout Alley are being somewhat inconsistent. This is due in part to water temps and wind direction. However, Trolling about 200 feet off shore from the S.S. Relief to the West Launch Ramp is giving us better success earlier in the day and again in late afternoon.

As water temps continue to cool through the month of September we are looking forward to our Bass population migrating back into shoreline structure and begin their feeding frenzy before heading back out to the depths for late fall and winter.

Speaking of Fall...The 15th Annual Western Outdoor News "Big Bear Lake Troutfest" is taking place October 5th and 6th. With multiple Trout Plants continuing up to the tourny we expect the "Catchin' Action" will be Excellent and a whole lot of fun for the participants. Prizes include a $5k Blind Bogey and a Grand Prize Raffle of a $12,000.00 Klamath boat, motor and trailer package. The first 600 entrants will receive complimentary " Goodie Bags" filled with loads of great gear!

As always, the Fishin' Guys at BBSG are proud to be associated with this event and look forward to seeing not only the familiar faces that come every year but meeting the first timers as well.
