Good fortune found us early today in the form of outstanding fishing for primo quality yellowfin. They were ready to eat right out of the gates setting us up to leave our coveted berth behind in favor of an afternoon spot targeting yellowtail. Once again, similar to the last voyage, singling out yellowtail was a tall order. But the abundance of primo yellowfin resting in the RSW tanks mandated a change of pace.
Regardless of production it was nice to mix up the variety list in both species and scenery. In this zone it would almost be a shame not to share the scenic wonders that are jaw dropping in their beauty. Well worth the effort all passed the afternoon working hard on the yellowtail in light hearted spirit. And we did pick off a few nice ones; just enough to keep the fire lit and interest alive. And, naturally, while searching for yellowtail we saw incredible sign of tuna in two different zones far from our four day “honey hole”.
Tomorrow we’ll be in search mode for yellowtail and whatever else we may find offshore. It appears that the raunchy weather earlier in the week has subsided setting us up for an effective shot prospecting new ground. Photo today features Royal Star veteran and master angler Mark Lorman with his dandy, 45 pound yellowtail.
