Wohlford Lake Fishing Report

Wohlford Lake Staff

Catfish are being caught throughout the lake. Alfredo Lopez of Escondido landed a huge 20.00# catfish Sunday fishing with mackerel on Senior Shoreline. Mr. Lopez’s big catch could be a precursor of what’s to come in the fall when the larger catfish tend to be feeding more heavily. Lake Wohlford cats prefer chicken liver or cut mackerel.

Largemouth bass can be found lurking around structure. Shaun Dunhan of Valley Center caught & released an 8.30# bass while drop-shotting near the South Shore Rock Pile.

Crappie can be found hiding wherever cover can be found. Wendell Jackson of Escondido scored a pair of 1.60# crappie fishing off Bass Point using live golden shiners.

Each month Whopper Contest winners in four categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. For information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.

WHOPPER CONTEST WINNERS FOR JULY WERE:
