Blufinnin'

No matter how many times we witness such showings it continues to amaze. Relocating from yesterday’s zone that featured schools of bluefin for over 20 miles, today’s area was even more spectacular. Extraordinary is an understatement. From 40 - 200 pounds there is something for every angler out here. The trick of course is finding a group that wants to bite.

Not an easy endeavor on it’s face there are at least a few rigs every day that hit the right one and reap huge rewards. Yesterday we elected to mix and match beginning the day with steady action on nice grade yellowtail switching to bluefin mode in the afternoon. Plenty of chances were to be had and we banked a couple more handfuls of these beauties in the end.

Our final day almost upon us we gear up for pure bluefinnin’ tomorrow determined to make it our “lucky day”. No doubt any kind of good luck will close out this adventure on the right note. Regardless of fortune we are set to work our way to a successful outcome. That is what we really rely on.

On the admin side I want to emphasize again how ideal the set up is for the shorter voyages coming up in July. Only two voyages still have space and plenty of it. Right now there is no indication that this bluefin is set to travel anywhere. Between this fish local, the massive amount still staging below, the quality yellowtail moving in on kelps, and yellowfin starting to show the set up for offshore three and four day voyages does not get any better. A ridiculous amount of fishing time - almost zero travel, superb weather on the inside, signature Royal Star professional handling of these beautiful bluefin that produces the highest quality of product in the entire San Diego fleet by a wide margin; the list goes on and on. It’s a great time to go fishing. It’s going to be a great time to go fishing for a long time.

Photo today features Charter Master and west coast legend Larry Brown who demonstrated his fishing prowess on a couple of these beautiful, 70 - 90 pound class bluefin.
