What's New at Accurate: New Clamp for Cork Jig Rods
9-1-2008
David Nilsen
Accurate has released a new device certain to appeal to jig casters, those anglers who favor longer rods with "deckhand-style" cork or tape-wrapped handles. The new, much wider and stronger clamp holds rod and reel together over a much greater gripping area, and will obviously be less prone to loosening, slipping or getting mounted askew.
The new clamp appears to be made of solid aluminum with a lightening hole in the center. It's fastened by six Allen nuts instead of the former pair of nuts on the older clamps, so it should grip like a pit bull. It looks overbuilt; very unlikely to be tweaked by pressure or rod forces.
It was recently tested at Guadalupe Island by Jack Nilsen and other anglers, where Jack shot these photos. Price and availability hasn't been announced yet, but the new clamp is likely to be found wherever Accurate products are sold. You'll read about here when the information is released.
