Carlos Has Passed

Bill Roecker
Rick Marin, manager at H&M Landing, told Bill Roecker August 27 that Carlos Goldsmith has died in Mexico. He had been missing for a week. Born in 1911, Carlos was 97, a former liftpole tunaman in the Eastern Pacific. He worked at H&M and was known for his natty dress when off-duty. He was famous for his cowboy hats and boots, and he was well-known and very well-liked by co-workers, dock people and fishermen.
Marin told Roecker that Mexican authorities said Goldsmith died August 21 in a hotel, and that they were holding the body for relatives to claim, but the H&M manager was unaware of any living family. Anyone who knows of next of kin for Carlos is asked to contact H&M at (619) 222-1144.
