Sam Patella skippered his American Angler on a five-day trip with 28 anglers, and brought the boat and the group home to Pt. Loma Sportfishing August 18.
A Salas 6 jig in dorado color slickered a 34.8-pound yellowtail for Jeff Bonafede of Manhattan Beach, who won first place for the fish. He said he used 40-pound P-Line and 65-pound Power Pro Spectra backing on an Avet HC reel and a Seeker eight-foot glass rod.
Taylor Allen, 15 and home schooled in Carson City, NV, won second place for a 32.8-pound yellow, and Dale Cornett of Torrance won third place for a 31.4-pound yellowfin tuna.
