Between the million skipjack released and almost one hundred quality yellowfin tuna in the hatch it was an action packed day. So much so that day’s end saw us steaming north sated and satisfied with that style of fishing. Suffice it to say that everyone retained the quantity of yellowfin tuna they were after.
A few wahoo were also in the mix reminding anglers regularly that their teeth snip off monofilament and fluorocarbon with ease. Of course as soon as the wire leaders were employed to counter the crafty speedster’s hijinks they rejected those offerings. Classic; and high on the list of reasons the largest member of the mackerel family is so highly sought after. And also why nabbing one of those devils amidst such action is particularly rewarding.
Royal Star veteran Jim Trosper was one of the “lucky” few today who presented his wahoo bomb in the right place at the right time. The reward is clear in this image captured while Jim’s prize was coming over the rail.
