Truckee River Fly Fishing Report
9-24-2018
Matt Koles
Rolling right through September on the Truckee River.
Cold nights, warm afternoons on the Truckee side, cool nights, and hot afternoons on the Reno side. Be nice to get some weather, but hard to complain about how nice the weather is.
Not much change really in the last few weeks on the river. Flows and weather and bugs remain about the same.
Key would be to fish all water types. Trouts like the slower water in the mornings and the faster water when it warms up. Weird time of year to fish really. Pretty decent action through out the day if you can adapt. Cover some water and find some fish.
On the lower river in Nevada, the majority of fish are in faster oxygenated water still. Not up along the banks just yet, some, but soon most, and most back in the runs. That’s when the streamer fishing gets good. Not that it’s been that bad, but it has to cool more down there and it can be very good. Just have to switch colors and work them hard right now, (for all those that are asking.)
Just perfect weather up here right now.
