Good solid fishing on the Truckee River.
Kinda hot this weekend, but by middle of this week, high’s will be in the 60’s. Lows are already in the 30’s in Truckee, and about 50’s in Reno.
Flows have dropped out of Lake Tahoe, lowering the river about 100 cfs everywhere. Pretty boney up along the 89 section now, but really good flows for wading the lower river. Flows have also dropped out on the Little Truckee River too. Typical fall flows.
With the cooler weather this week it should really kick off some good fall fishing. Trouts like to fatten up before winter.
Look for fish to be eating lots and lots of baetis mayflies, baby crayfish and golden stones. The streamer fishing should start getting pretty good. Fall is a good time to get some large brown trout on the meat and potatoes. Cloudy days are always best this time of year for streamer fishing and dry fly fishing. Hopefully we can get some of those this fall.
I get asked a lot where is the best fishing on the Truckee River right now. It is best from Boca down into and through Nevada. If you can get in the raft with me and float through the Nature Conservancy in Nevada that is the best thing to do. I do not have many days open this fall, but November is almost a better month than October on the lower river.
The Advanced Fly Fishing Clinic will be on October 27th and 28th. It will be a 2 day clinic and only 4 spots will be available. The cost will be $500 for the 2 days. I will post all about it this week on the blog.
