Though slightly under gunned for the occasion we managed to scrape together a decent afternoon score from plenty of opportunity. Smaller size sardines, that have been quite effective for hooking these tuna, have limited the line and hook sizes setting up plenty of lengthy battles that end in the agony of defeat. It is the nature of such fishing. Between the need to pull hard to avoid the local denizens and the size average of the fish currently available the hook to land ratio is pretty rough. But we’re mighty glad to be here.
“Slow and steady wins the race” - a saying to live by in this scenario. An abundance of sign here suggests more opportunity to come. We simply need to settle in and get the job done. And we will - as long as they continue to bite. Perfect weather and conditions are a compliment that can not be ignored. And if the forecast stays true we have plenty more of that to look forward to. Photo today features Minnesota angler and Royal Star veteran Don Sytsma with a real dandy perched on the rail courtesy of Captain Blake Wasano.
