Fish Report for 7-16-2018

Reminiscent of “the good old days.”

The bay and the outside gate fishing has been reminiscent of “the good old days.” Take for instance Captain Chris Smith aboard his six-pack charter boat Defiant, berthed out of the Berkeley Marina with six anglers aboard reported catching their two-fish limits early. They headed back into the bay and decided to drift live anchovies on the flats where hooked and landed six halibut. Smith then moved the boat over the rock piles where they hooked full two-fish limits of striped bass up to 10 pounds. The same day Smith’s son Jonathon skippered the Happy Hooker on a live bait drifting adventure and he returned with 43 halibut and full limits of striped bass for 30 anglers. The halibut ranged from keeper size to 15 pounds and the stripers averaged from 7 to 8 pounds. On every drift at least 3 to 6 striped bass were hooked over the rock piles. The action couldn’t have been any better. OCEAN
