Pedro's Pangas Sportfishing Report

7-10-2008
Pete Hills

Good news in San Quintin this week. Things are definitely picking up this week. We had 15 boats out this week where they found wide open albacore 15 to 20 miles off the point. Cedar plugs seem to be the hot ticket when trolling. If you find a paddie, there is good chance for dorado and yellowtail under them. Six dorado were brought into the dock on our boats, the largest weighing in at 35 lbs. There is still good yellowtail bite at San Martin Island on jigs and live bait. Local fishing is still great as well--large rock cod and ling cod, but due to the albacore, not too many anglers are taking advantage of it.

Armando Aguear and his son, Janko, and Ernesto Del Velle and his son, Ernie, from Tijuana, cleaned up on the albacore and yellowtail fishing with Captain Hector on the Rommy. Their biggest alby was 38 lbs.

Weather has been absolutely great--seas are calm, overcast skies in the morning, but t-shirt time by 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

We had a few boats out this week. The weather has been great, with calm seas. Captain Hector fishing on the Rommy took 4 anglers out to Soccorro and found white sea bass, 25 to 30 lbs and legal halibut. There is still yellowtail at San Martin, 15 to 20 lbs, and still great rock cod and ling cod at the 240. There are lots of fish and we look forward to providing some great trips...... Read More

Another school of yellowtail showed up at San Martin Island 12 to 16 lbs. along with some nice calico bass and a few halibut. Still great fishing for rock cod and ling cod at the 240 spot. We sent one boat out 20 miles off the point to check for paddies and tuna. Water is clear and blue at 62 degrees, but no luck....... Read More
