Middle Owens Report
5-15-2018
Tom Loe
Flows in the drift boat sections have swelled due to run-off from Bishop Creek, making for poor water conditions on drift boat trips. Trout plants have been very light in these sections also. From the dam at Pleasant Valley down to the HWY. 6 crossing- water conditions are better. The bite is so-so overall in the burn area/WT section; typically picks up with the hatches, & warmer water temps afternoon. First generation caddis are now emerging along with some damsel flies and Pale Morning Duns. Streamers like Spruce-A-Bu’s, Loebegrs, and Crystal Leeches used with a heavy sinking tip line are the right call under these conditions. Properly weighted nymph rigs with standard; or parallel Assassins, flashback pheasant tails, and parallel punk perch can get you grabs below an Under-Cator.
