The winter run steelhead fishing has vastly improved on the lower
river where anglers are finding very good steelhead fishing in the
open section of river below the SMUD power lines at the south west
boundary of Ancil Hoffman park to the Howe Avenue area. There
doesn’t seem to be very many large or adult fish yet. Most are half
pounder‘s with only a few fish hitting the 3 to 5 pound range.
Anglers are presently using salmon roe, a Little Cleos and
nightcrawlers along with Kastmasters. During the salmon run this year
the hatchery has taken a total of 7. 21 million eggs at the Nimbus
hatchery to date where they will have enough to produce 4 million
smolts next year.
