Fish Report for 11-5-2017

Cisco’s Report: Sunday 11-05-17

11-5-2017
Channel Islands Sportfishing

Report: For Sunday we ended up only having 4 boats go out because it was windy right of the get go. Most of our boats departed as scheduled but found there was no hiding from the breeze and it being so early in the morning it was only going to get worse. A few of our late morning departures got word of this and scrubbed there trips at the dock. We did however have 2 boats stick it out and after enduring a steady wind all morning, found an area at the islands with pleasant conditions. Lucky for them, that area produced a solid bite for Rockfish, Sheephead, Whitefish, and a hand full of surface species. Anglers returning from these trips reported having a good time and that fishing was actually really good. Also included in today’s count is an overnight trip that departed last night, and a 2-day trip that departed Friday night. Both of these trips had outstanding fishing! Of course they had a boat load of big Rockfish and Lingcod, as we often expect to see at the outer islands. But it was the Yellowtail and even a couple “barn door” Halibut that was the story. We have had a few Yellows caught from time to time at the outer islands this year, but its only now we are starting to see them regularly in the overnight boat counts. As fall fishing usually is at the Norther Channel Island, we should expect more of these “combo trips” throughout the rest of this month and probably all the way to the end of the season.

Today’s Fish Count: 4 Boats and 82 Anglers

32 Yellowtail, 2 Halibut, 10 Bonito, 1 Calico Bass, 46 Sheephead, 28 Lingcod, 475 Whitefish, and 680 Rockfish.
