Pedro's Pangas Sportfishing Report

5-29-2008
Pete Hills

Things picked up for us last week. Winds were calm through the Memorial Day weekend but was blowing slightly on Monday, but not when I left Tuesday morning. Twelve boats were out with everyone getting limits of large rock cod and ling cod. The giant Humboldt squid have reappeared again which Captain Hector thinks may be a good sign for the yellowtail coming in. Mexican Navy is patrolling the area heavily and may board individual boats to check for permits and contraband (drugs/guns). All fishermen at this time do need a valid Mexican fishing license. They made it the boat owner's responsibility to ensure that everyone on their boat has a license. Tomas Guerrero of Mexican tourism was there through the weekend but his supply was limited. It is, therefore, suggested that anyone going down secures a license before crossing the border or in Ensenada.

Unfortunately, he could not give me a report because no boats had gone out. We are looking forward to great Memorial Weekend and hopefully, will have more to report next week. FYI: We have been trying to get the word out to...... Read More

There has been a great bite on large "johnny" bass. Captain Hector and I went out Tuesday, stopped 2 miles off the point, loaded up in 2 hours, and were back in by 11:30 a.m. Easy limits on all the good-eating fish you...... Read More
