Fish Report for 7-16-2017
Whiskeytown Kokanee bite continues.
7-16-2017
Jeff Goodwin
I fished a blustery Whiskeytown Lake this morning and had limits by 9:00 am. The bite was steady and there are now a lot of Kokanee inside of the Whiskey Creek arm. The 299 bridge was absolutely stacked with Kokanee and they are mostly suspended in the shadow line when the sun comes up. As has been the case all summer, only certain baits work on any given day so you have to show them your tackle box most days before you find the hot bait. All the fish we caught today were at 53-55' feet. The Kokanee are absolutely beautiful and are hands down the best in the state this season. I'm telling my clients this is my best season ever on Whiskeytown and with the exception of a few days, we've had limits just about every trip.
