GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE MIKE CARRINGTON MEMORIAL DERBY ANGLERS

HOT:Temps in the high 90's and a slight breeze cooling by midweek. The evenings and early mornings are still cooling somewhat offering some relief. The Lake level has stayed much the same as last report, 13 feet below spill. Water temperatures have warmed since last reading, 68 degrees at the 20 foot mark and 72 at the surface. Clarity has also remained the same, good to 17 feet.

Trolling:Lots of Trollers pre-fishing the Lake today in anticipation of tomorrows Mike Carrington Memorial Family Derby. As you can imagine fishing info is a closely guarded secret until after the derby. The majority of Kokanee caught are turning up between the Face of the Dam and Indian Rock with a few schooling in the Narrows and along the barrel line in the South End. Limits are mixed (Rainbows and Kokes) and most have to work harder for them. Fish have dropped a little deeper lately and this heat wave will drive them deeper still, depths for downriggers are running 20 to 50 feet. Small lures in red, pink and fire tiger patterns, Hoochies, Sep's, Midge Wobblers, Wedding Rings, Uncle Larry's copper pops, and Mad Irishman lures are all working. Tip everything with scented shoe peg corn and end with 3/0 watermelon, lime or blue/silver dodger.

Bank Fishing: Didn't see a single bank angler anywhere around the Recreation Area even the Mud Hole was deserted, just way too hot to sit in the sun today! Try early morning till about 10 a.m. and late in the afternoon or early evening until this heat backs off a bit. Power bait balls and worms get the nod from the more successful bank anglers. Hanging from a surface bobber or floating up from the bottom on a sliding sinker, both are working well. Chartreuse, white and rainbow are the preferred power bait colors. Wide brimmed hats, umbrellas, SPF 200 sun screen and a cooler full of cold stuff is a must!

Recent Success Stories:John Morla of Ione got this 10.92 rainbow right at the face of the Dam. Don Howser world renowned nut farmer from Modesto coaxed this 9.3 monster Rainbow into his live well with power bait. Last but not least Domingo Mezquiriz of San Francisco got the biggest Trout this week (13.66 lbs) at the River Mouth with power bait. Also got some great pictures of Allan Fong and friends with some great large and small mouth bass but couldn't download them off his e-mail (may be our firewall). Please try and stop by the Marina to get your catch photographed and weighed, this helps insure we can upload the photo to the web site and authenticates the weight and the fact it was caught here. Congratulations to all-well done!

The Next Upcoming Event:The Annual Lake Kids Tank Derby scheduled for June 8th from 9 a.m. till noon. There will be prizes awarded in a variety of categories for boys and girls by age to 16 years. No license or fish permit required, all equipment and bait provided. Immediately afterwards a hot dog lunch will be available for $3.00. There will be an $8.00 day use fee to enter the park. Come join us for a great family event and help introduce kids to the great sport of fishing!

Trout Plants: As of today The Department of fish and Game has planted 3000 lbs, Pardee Lake has planted 32,000 lbs with more plants scheduled.
