Pardee Lake Fishing Report

5-9-2008
Fred Dorman

Clear blue skies today and continued in the forecast for the near future. Temperatures in the high 70's, low 80's.The evenings and early mornings are still cool and comfortable, expect mild afternoon breezes. The Lake level has stayed about the same as last report, approximately 13 feet below spill. Water temperatures have also remained unchanged since last reading, 60 degrees at the 20 foot mark and 67 at the surface. Water clarity is clear to 17 feet and perhaps a bit beyond.

Trolling: Kokanee bite is still excellent.Trollers try the Face of the Dam, the River Mouth and the Arm as far as Indian Rock. Saw a few working the barrel line this afternoon but was unable to find out if anyone was doing any good. Catches are mixed (Rainbows and Kokes), the trout to three pounds on average and the pot bellied Kokes ranging from 10 to 14 inches with a few in the 15 inch category. Depths for downriggers are running 15 to 50 feet. Small lures in red, pink and tiger patterns, Hoochies, Sep's, Midge Wobblers, Wedding Rings, Uncle Larry's copper pops, and Mad Irishman lures are all working. Tip everything with scented shoe peg corn and end with a lime or blue/silver Sep's dodger.

Bank Fishing: According to my source this week has been pretty quiet for bank fishing, hardly anyone here to thin out those enormous schools of Rainbows cruising the Recreation Area and the "Mud Hole". Power bait balls and worms get the nod from the more successful bank anglers. Hanging from a surface bobber or floating up from the bottom on a sliding sinker, both are working well. Chartreuse, white and rainbow are the preferred power bait colors.

Recent success stories: Seven year old Stephanie Davis of Elverta Ca caught this enorminus 7.29 lb Rainbow using way stinky power bait in the "Mud Hole". Harrison Mc Han another young seasoned angler from Stockton got these 5 and 8 lb catfish way down in the South End using chicken livers. Congratulations to all-well done!

Remember NEXT WEEKEND May 17th is the Mike Carrington Memorial CIFFI Family Fun Derby. Check the Project Kokanee website at www.kokanee.org for information, reservations and on-line entry forms.
