Lake Chabot Fishing Report
5-19-2017
East Bay Regional Park District
GENERAL CONDITIONS
Lake Chabot is 100% FULL! We are expecting a few nice days this upcoming week, temperatures are expected to be in low 70’s. Overall, trout fishing has been good. The last trout plant from Mt. Lassen was on May 17th, when 750 lbs. were planted next to the marina. Water temperature remains in the high 50’s and water clarity is about 7 feet.
CATFISH
No reports of catfish were reported getting caught this past week. Typically catfish fishing is slow this time of year. Catfish will begin to be planted in June when the water temperature increases. When fishing for catfish, the best bait to use is either chicken liver or mackerel. Make sure to cut 2” inch chunk of mackerel and putting it on a size 1 or 2 hook and half ounce weight works best. A simple trick to use when using this bait is wrapping magic thread around the bait to ensure that it doesn’t fly off when casting. Typical hotspot for catfishing is fishing near the Island and back by Raccoon Point.
TROUT
Overall trout fishing has been AMAZING! Both bait fishing as well as trolling has worked really well for anglers. Fishing on both shorelines has been producing limits and whoppers. Anglers fishing from shore are using a variety of Powerbait. Anglers trolling are doing well using Rapala lures; J7, Firetiger, and Rainbow trout pattern are the most productive. Other baits that also work to catch trout are chartreuse and yellow Powerbait. Weather forecast for this upcoming week looks promising with no chance of rain.
BASS
Largemouth bass fishing has begun to pick up. This time of year bass tend to be on their beds spawning. Using plastic worms has been the most productive. Please practice catch and release for bass, as they are not stocked into the lake and their population depends on you!
