Del Valle Fishing Report

5-8-2017
Del Valle Marina

The weather this week has been beautiful with temperatures ranging from low 70s all the up into the high 80s. The water has really cleared up with anglers having about 5-7 feet of visibility at some points of the lake. There has been a lot of "fish on" this week with many different anglers catching fish, the best bets on catching fish would be either trout or striped bass.

Trout have been caught from the south end all the way to the dam. Most anglers are still catching them on either powerbait (any color with the garlic stench) or mice tails. I would also recommend using nightcrawlers or if you're into more cast and retrieve I would use either a kastmaster or smaller jerk bait.

Stripers have slowly but surely been coming out to feed with the clearer water. Most anglers are catching from swallow bay all the way to the dam. Best bet to catch one of these guys is to sit with either anchovies, mackerel, or sardines in about 15-25 feet of water.

Catfish have slowed down this week with only a few anglers hooking into them. I would fish points, fallen trees and weed beds while using anchovies, mackerel, or nightcrawlers. Most of the catfish that have been caught have been either in the narrows or at the dam.

Featured anglers of the week for 5/1/17-5/8/17:

Kenny Khu of Livermore caught one striper in Swallow Bay, she weighed 22 LBS Kameron of Union City caught one trout at the dam weighing 1.56 LBS
Susan Rodriguez of Hollister caught one crappie and one trout in the narrows the stringer was 3.15 LBS
Matt Messina of Detroit MI, caught one trout at the dam weighing 7.5 LBS
Becky Torres and friend of Houston, TX, caught 7 trout at the dam the stringer weighed 15 LBS
Kenny Khu of Livermore caught one catfish at the dam weighing 16 LBS
Colin Cusin of Oakland caught one trout at the dam weighing 4.25 LBS
Mark Adams of San Jose caught one catfish in the narrows weighing 25 LBS using 6 LB fluorocarbon
