Channel Islands Sportfishing
We continue to see good weather for the most part. Fortunately, the weather man was a little off, because the windy conditions they called for never developed. Fishing itself has overall been excellent, but today our captains said it was not easy pickings. All the boats dabbled in bottom fishing to make sure everyone had something to bring home, but some fished for bigger game to start the day. A few White Seabass and Yellowtail were caught at the local islands, but ten 10 of 11 Yellows were caught by the same boat. The overnight boats fishing the outer islands focused on bottom fishing for Lingcod and a variety of Rockfish species and there was 1 White Seabass caught too. But again, even at the outer islands it was reported to be a tough day. Just goes to show, you never know what you’ll get fishing. Some days are ridiculously good and thus far we have been blessed with solid fishing for whatever we target. With that said however, some days are a struggle and we have to work extra hard and pull out all the stops to put our anglers on the fish. That’s why they call it fishing and not catching.
Today’s Fish Count: 9 boats and 225 anglers.
1,710 Assorted Rockfish, 133 Ocean Whitefish, 3 Sculpin, 2 Sheephead, 25 Lingcod, 2 Sole, 1 Calico Bass, 2 Barracuda, 11 Yellowtail, and 3 White Seabass.
