Sacramento River striper and sturgeon fishing

4-7-2017
Dave Jacobs

The striper fishing in Northern California is now getting very good for many anglers from the California Delta all the way north on the Sacramento, Feather and American Rivers.  There is heavy rain falling in Northern California at the time of this report but that will only bring higher concentrations of striped bass up the river for the annual spring spawn.  The quality of striped bass has been very good so far this season with many 18 to 24 inch stripers filling the fish boxes.  There has also been a few white sturgeon landed as well while striper fishing on both the Sacramento River and Feather River.  The best bets this past week has been bait fishing from anchor when fishing the muddier waters from the heavy rains.  When you can find cleaner water fishing live minnows is best.  The striper fishing will only improve in the coming weeks as the striper fishing season usually is best in April and May.  Anglers can expect of very big river rise this weekend that will last into early next week.  River flows are expected to go up to monitor stage in Colusa California this Saturday and Sunday as reported by Sacramento River fishing guide Dave Jacobs.
