Sacramento River fishing report.
With high releases into the Sacramento River at the Feather River and out of Keswick Dam to make room in Lake Oroville and Lake Shasta, fishing has been put on hold for awhile until releases come down. The spring striper fishing season should be very good when flows drop on the Sacramento River in Colusa California. The trout fishing in Redding California should also be great again as flows drop as well. For the time being, we have been focusing all of our fishing efforts North up on the Smith River.
Smith River steelhead fishing report.
Here too, the Smith has gotten its fair share of rain but has been very fishable as the Smith River near Crescent City California is the states fastest clearing river. The Smith has become fishable very quickly this past week for both the bank anglers and the drift boaters. The Smith River at the time this report is on another rise and plunking the lower river will be the go to option for a couple of days. There have been some huge steelhead landed this past week with steelhead 12 to 28 pounds coming into the nets for some anglers. The Smith River has seen many steelhead landed this month in the high teens and into the twenty plus pound class. The best bets have been drifting yarn/puffball combos with a small bait button from the bank and plunking small bright,y colored spin n glows/corkies from the drift boats on the lower Smith River. The Smith looks to be back into fishable shape this weekend but is high and rising at the time of this report.
Pictured is Dave Jacobs and Todd Simonis from Igo California with another Smith RIver steelhead caught this weekend with Dave Jacobs Professional Guide Service.
