Cisco’s Report: Just in time, Sunday 03-26-17

Channel Islands Sportfishing

Sunday was not one of those busy days like everyone has grown accustomed to on the weekend. In fact, this entire weekend was rather mellow. Boat loads were on the lite side giving everyone a little extra room to maneuver. Fishing itself was good for an assortment of bottom fish. Most of the Rockfish limit today were Vermilion Rockfish aka Red Snapper. We are definitely seeing an increase in the amount of “Reds” we are catching. Quality is getting better with each passing day too! The weather was sunny and air temperatures were in the low 70’s for most of the day until the wind came up. Lucky, we were able to complete the day before it kicked up and became unfishable. One angler today told us, “Literally, when the captain got on the microphone and announced we were heading home, the wind started to rip, got-er-done just in time”. Overall, it was a nice day out there. Everyone seemed pleased and had nice fillet bags of fish to take home. Unfortunately, this wind event is going to hang around a while so we decided to cancel our trips fishing Monday. Hopefully it mellows out as predicted so we can resume our fishing this Tuesday. We have several trips online for fishing this week, so if you can get away come fishing with us! Today’s Fish Count: 5 boats and 145 anglers. 1,070 Assorted Rockfish, 45 Ocean Whitefish, 9 Lingcod, 5 Sculpin, 3 Sole, 3 Sheephead, and 1 Cabezon.
