After many a day of rockin' and rollin', after all we are on the high seas, she finally relented; the last leg of travel was completed in an ocean becalmed. Ahhh... Ironically that final stretch is where we usually take it in the shorts. But this twist in the “usual” routine was a gift gladly accepted, and typical of the temptress we spend so much time upon. One night, one day of passage in such serene beauty nigh negates all memory of the other side.
“Rock Cod” Rick Maxa captures final photo honors with an image immortalized way back in the beginning of this adventure at Alijos Rocks. Surface iron action on those quality wahoo was the theme of that afternoon and Rick and others took full advantage of the opportunity. While surface iron fishing for anything is the peak of all lure style action, targeting wahoo with this gear elevates the prospect to new heights. The heart stopping bites, with many fired up wahoo chasing the jig flying ten or fifteen feet from the water, are worth a thousand words alone but the antics of the hooked wahoo after being fooled are a story difficult to believe less hands on perspective. Needless to say after our first afternoon of insane wahoo action on an obviously unsuspecting school we all shared in the “hands on” title, and then some.
The boys will be taking the boat up the line planning on a mid morning arrival Tuesday to meet our date with Fisherman's Processing. After that we'll be shutting her down for ten days tending to a few projects before going home for the holiday's. Reports and any pertinent information will continue to be shared as the next two weeks unfold. Happy weekend to come!
