The wind abated steadily after dawn transforming the ocean we traveled through day one into an inviting prospect. Wahoo, those skinny speedsters that boast unending appeal, were on the docket as we drove by the perfect haven mid day in conditions still ideal for this time of the season. They were ready and waiting.

While we didn't set records or establish a new standard we did enjoy excellent fishing for 30 – 60 pound class “skinnies” making the most of our pit stop that ultimately convinced us to settle down, settle in, and get them while the getting was good. Knowing that a “bird in the hand” counts for a lot on the high seas we employed some age old wisdom to the intial voyage strategy seeking to maximize this opportunity. “Don't leave 'em to find 'em” as the old saying goes, so we didn't.

Accomplishing multiple goals by camping out in this zone we'll have another go at them tomorrow before employing the next portion of our plan. Time is on our side, the weather is fine, our bait is superb – it's the right combination to build upon. We'll see if we can float it into the next eight days.

His first time also targeting wahoo the Washintonian Albacoreman is now initiated into the special fraternity that is a simultaneous blessing and curse. Once these fish, and this style of fishing, pervades an angler's psyche it's all over; there's nothing that compares.
