"Plan B"

A failed attempt to insert some variety into the program did little to dampen enthusiasm. As is always the case “plan B” was close at hand this time, thankfully, only requiring a quick jaunt to relocate to more favorable grounds. Back in tuna mode timing was perfect – phenomenal weather and abundant spots of fish aligned for an ideal, long drift scenario. From mid-morning until daylight passed we remained stationary fishing our way through the day. Ample time to practice the art of fishing produced the desired result. Not only did we accumulate a fine catch of 20 – 30 pound yellowfin tuna with a handful of 50 – 60 pound standouts, every angler ended the day more proficient in the art of fishing. Time at the rail was well spent. Some good coaching, friendly prodding, and even a little tough love from crewmen whipped everyone into an efficient catching group diminishing mishaps and gear failures while demonstrating that there is a reason for consistent success in fishing. Feeling good about the prospects we head into our final day tomorrow prepared to put these now well honed angling skills to the test. In flat calm conditions – literally no wind, the pursuit will be enjoyed by all. Photo of the day features first time Royal Star angler Joe Lusker who took his share of turns around the boat before triumphing over this beauty. At sixty pounds even this dandy yellowfin took big fish of the day honors.
