A little hand wringing early today as the morning transitioned into afternoon and nothing notable had entered the hatch. Not due to lack of sign, plenty of fish were around, a marked change in behavior hinted that perhaps the pure glory phase of this season had switched to real fishing; the kind where anglers must actually put into practice the most challenging aspect of their craft. However the late afternoon, as has been the case overall out here this season, set things back on track. Beautiful quality yellowfin tuna invaded the shallows and put on a show that these anglers will not soon forget. Between the catching itself, that left no man, or woman, behind, the backdrop of huge areas of 50 – 150 pound tuna flying from the water all around energized and entertained while we dropped it into high gear and got the job done. Amidst blustery conditions – chin strap on the lids buckled down tight kind of breeze, we enjoyed the catching recognizing with complete gratitude that the lee side of this behemoth island was providing a level of comfort that can only be described as heavenly compared to any alternative on the the outside. Good livin', again, is what it boiled down to; an incredible fishing opportunity for one and all. Photos today feature anglers Rodger Burrow with the fish of the day at 143.5, and Tom Benson with a beefy one and a quarter that presaged the afternoon action just after lunch.
