THE CABO SAN LUCAS FISH REPORT - THE GAVIOTA SPORTFISHING FLEET AND MORE
The billfish bite has tapered off to about a billfish per boat day fished and the "high liners" at 2 to 3 per day. Some of the boats have even reverted to inshore fishing, as the sierra bite has been full of action and excitement and an occasional yellowtail gets caught in the mix. Overall combined counts for the Gaviota Fleet & Fish Cabo boats for 44 days fished, (including 3 inshore days) reflected 40 stripers, (34 released) 17 yellowfin tuna, 1 mako shark, 1 yellowtail, 1 bonito and 61 sierra.
Cabo Climate: Cloudy day during the eaqrly week and changing to mostly sunny and warm in the latter part with temps that ranged from 59 nights to 79 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: From the Golden Gate Bank to the Jaime Bank and southwest of Cabo, temps were at 71 and rising to 73 at another 10 miles or so offshore. Cabo Falso and around to the Gorda Banks, the temps were cooler, down to 68-69.
Best Fishing Area: Golden Gate still one of the better spots but the billfish are moving about and there isn't any apparent concentration.
Best Lure/Bait: A few fish are being taken on the mackerel colors as the boats are trolling over much wider areas in search of the concentrations.
Live Bait Supply: Lots of mackerel and easy to replenish the supply.

THE MAZATLAN FISH REPORT - THE ARIES SPORTFISHING FLEET
Finally, the yellowfin tuna have shown up in the offshore waters and provided the boats with some great tuna-catching action. While the fish are not monsters, there are sufficient catches in the 20-40 lb. ranges to keep the anglers on their toes and happy and looking forward to the fresh sashimi or tuna dinners. Overall catches for the offshore waters reflected 7 stripers and 147 yellowfin tuna for 29 days fished. The inshore super panga action kept the anglers pretty busy this past week and reflected 6 pargo, 49 red snapper, 20 loras, 11 sierra, 5 cochis and 87 jack cravelle, (mostly released fish) for 8 days fished.
Mazatlan Climate: Mostly sunny and warm days, but cool nights and mornings, temps from 48 nights to 79 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Waters are cooling off with 65 inshore temps and rising to 67-68 offshore temps
Best Fishing Area: Most of the tuna are in the offshore areas to the west & southwest of the Marina El Cid, 24-34 miles, with the fish running with the porpoise.
Best Lure/Bait: Rigged baits took all the billfish. The tuna were active on tuna feathers in a wide range of colors.

THE IXTAPA-ZIHUATANEJO FISH REPORT - THE INDEPENDENT FLEET
The offshore action cooled a bit last week in Ixtapa Zihuatanejo as the yearly turnover of water temperatures began to arrive. Dramatic daily shifts in water temperatures are currently hampering the fishing efforts for most of the boats as they move farther offshore to the 25-30 mile-plus mark. Our blue water moved out to the 25 mile mark and cooler green water covered the inshore areas. Still our captains reported good numbers of SAILFISH and DORADO. Captain Temo on the Secuestro reported raising 8 sailfish and 1 dorado for 7 offshore fishing days, landing 2 sailfish on the fly. Captain Chiro on the Bloody Hook took top honors for the week, scoring 9 sailfish, 1 dorado, 2 chulas, 1 Spanish mackerel and 1 bigeye jack for 7 fishing days. Captain Miguel on the super panga Tijerta recorded 6 SAILFISH 2 DORADO and 1 Spanish Mackerel in 3 days with European Angler Mr Callico. Mr. Callico's group also fished aboard the super panga Cesy landing 7 Sailfish and 4 Dorado and the Super panga Leydy landing 8 SAILFISH and 6 Dorados. Captain Alberto on the Tarpon reported 3 SAILFISH in 3 days. Returning French Angler Mr. Jackie Montiel fishing aboard the super panga Sailfish Landed 7 SAILFISH 3 DORADO and 1 SHARK in 4 days of offshore fishing. Captain Chiro on the Bloody Hook recorded 6 SAILFISH and 2 DORADOS in 5 offshore days. Captain Edmundo Sanchez fishing out of Puerto Vincentee Guerrero reported 1 SAILFISH and 2 DORADO in one offshore day. Many other billfish were seen but were reluctant to bite. Captain Arutro Landa on the Janeth fished 1 inshore day landing 1 ROOSTERFISH 15 YELLOWTAIL JACKS, 4 SPANISH MACKEREL and 1 PAMPANO. Our captain have also reported many dolphins moving into the area and with them are the YELLOWFIN TUNA We are seeing fish in the 20 - 30 Lb class. No Monsters as of this time. A few Marlin were also hooked and lost last week. Mach and April have historically been our best months for good Marlin and Tuna action.
Ixtapa Zihuatanejo weather: Sunny Light winds mild temps, ranging from 69 nights to 90 daytime highs.
Sea Conditrions: Calm, with temps that ranged from 77 inshore and rising to 82 offshore, along the 1,000 curve and beyond.
Bait Supply: Good

2-7-2008THE CABO SAN LUCAS FISH REPORT - THE GAVIOTA SPORTFISHING FLEET AND MORE While the billfish counts have slowed a bit, they are still pretty good for February, even as the currents and water temps continue with their annual changes at this time of year. Instead of just running out and catching a handful or so, the crews are having to work harder for the fish. High boat for the week was the "Fish Cabo I", reflecting 5 stripers...... Read More
THE CABO SAN LUCAS FISH REPORT - THE GAVIOTA SPORTFISHING FLEET AND MORE The billfish bite continues, albeit, it did slow up a little as the full moon weighed-in as a negative element. (I would expect it to rebound with a vengeance following the full moon). High boat was the "Gaviota VIII", with Captain Juan Dominguez, releasing 12 stripers for 5 fishing days. Overall combined counts for 47 fishing days with the Gaviota Fleet and Fish Cabo boats reflected...... Read More
