Fish Report for 8-30-2016
Eureka Albacore season is here
8-30-2016
Marc Schmidt
It has been a lot of rockfish and lingcod since halibut closed until a couple days ago when we got back offshore for albacore. Sunday we found the break 55 miles SW of Eureka and ended up getting 4 and lost a nice one on a butterfly jig on the slide. Yesterday we fished a bit further north and were hooked up within 5 minutes of putting in. We ended up with 10 albacore to 18 lbs and lost 2 others 53 miles SW of the Humboldt Bay. The fish are on smaller baits and the Redwood Coast spreader bars with small jethead and clone chasebaits in dark colors trolled at 6 knots have been getting the bulk of the fish. The ocean has been perfect for running out and in at 30 knots on Scrimshaw has been making it a short run. I will be back to salmon for our last 5 days Sept 1-5 and still have room for this Thursday, Saturday, and sunday then will be finishing out the season with halibut, rockfish, and more tuna trips. Call to book a trip if you want to get out 707-601-3474
