Fish Report for 8-18-2016
Pacific Halibut finished the Aug period great
8-18-2016

Fishing in August was great, the weather not so much. We did have a few days at the end of the halibut period to get out there and we sure found them snapping good. We had 5 butts on Friday and 4 butts on Saturday and that was in just a few hours of fishing. Both days we ran to the cape after to make it a combo trip and found hungry lings and limits of blacks and even an assortment of other rockies and cabezone for some fast action.
Salmon slowed down toward the end of the Aug open period but we had some days with limits and some days with just a fish a rod this month. The fish we have been fishing on at the entrance to the bay just have got a bit worked over and were not biting as well as earlier on. I think we will be seeing some good action for the next salmon period which will give the fish no pressure for a couple weeks and allow them to pile back up and get hungry. It will reopen Sept 1st through the 5th and I still have some room for all those days if you want one last shot at northcoast ocean salmon.
Sept 1st will also reopen halibut and there is a lot of quota left to catch so I'll be putting as many hali trips together as I can. I am hoping the halibut season will last through the end of oct but with only 8000 lbs left in the quota it could be caught in sept if we have a nice ocean and they bite like we left them. There is also some tuna water just about in range and I will start running out there in sept between halibut trips. I have many of you on the tuna list and hope we have a strong finish to our tuna season as it has been a long wait for it to even start and I can get many of you all out on the bluewater.
Call to book a trip in sept or to get on the halibut hotlist as I will be putting some trips together as open load on good weather days till the quota runs out and I will still be running for rockfish till the end of oct.
