Royal Polaris Fishing Report

Royal Polaris Crew

Hello everyone; Well today started off just like it ended yesterday. Excellent weather, and good fishing. We had steady Yellowfin action, on fish in the 6o to 120 pound range most of the day, with a handful of 30 to 50 pound range.

The Yellowtail action has not produced yet, but with tuna fishing being so good, the Yellowtail don’t get a chance to move in. We are starting to lose our people power, since most are running out of fuel. We had a few personnel best again today, with first timers getting the hang of fishing Yellowfin tuna.

One thing I must say, if your coming out on a trip, and you even think that it’s going to fish Yellowfin in the 60 to 120 pound range, make sure you gear up with the proper tackle. I might suggest a good outfit to fish with is a Accurate Boss 600, Shimano Talica 16, or even a Shimano TLD 30. All 3 reels should be filled with 65 or 80 pound spectra, with just enough room to fish 15 to 25 feet of mono or fluorocarbon (60 or 80 pound test) topshot. Don’t be fooled by rods saying that they are rated to 200 pound test, a good 60 to 80 pound rod fishing Yellowfin tuna is a 770 H (Cal-Star), or the equivalent Seeker rod. I put this in the report tonight, because we did have a few people get spooled, while others are having a hard time getting the fish to the boat, after a long battle. If you have question about what tackle to use, check out your local tackle store, or ask “D” at, question@Royal Polaris.com. We will try to make some bait tonight, so wish us luck.
