We changed it up a bit today spending the majority of our time spot targeting yellowtail in beautiful conditions. Though breezy on the outside we avoided all of it; yet another invaluable feature of this spectacular desitination. Come late afternoon/evening anglers were again treated to steady action on 40 – 80 pound yellowfin tuna with a few larger standouts and a fair sprinking big yellows in the mix. The perfect pace was marked by everyone picking their shots enjoying the chance to catch at will and support their angling brethren from the gallery when not at the rail.

And while the pace has been controlled and easy going the effort required to land these spirited yellowfin and yellowtail is not, and anglers are showing it. It was very gratifying last night to see a group of anglers showing obvious signs now of wear and tear. These guys and gals are getting beat up. Blissfully exhausted all rallied last night to hold the annual raffle in support of their Alma Mater fishing foundation. The highly anticipated event on this annual seven day adventure was held in the flat calm of a protected anchorage ideal for the occasion.

Back to fishing tomorrow the action will resume with another mission in search of quality yellowfin and yellowtail. Today's image features master angler and long time Humblodt State Fishin' Lumberjack particpant Andrew Hampton with a 47 pound trophy yellowtail he wrenched from the treacherous rocks in one of our favorite “mossback” holes.
