Hey folks
We decided to take a break from BFT offshore and enjoy a day of fishing instead of chasing. After receiving a beautiful load of sardines from Everingham Bait Co. we headed over to San Clemente Island to try for yellowtail and wsb. One tank was left open In hopes of catching some live squid. Squid was tough but we were lucky enough to get some bait from a squid seiner. Right before gray we got the anchor down and caught a few nice yellows right away. After that it was fairly slow in the bait grounds only releasing a few Black Sea bass. We headed down the backside and had good fishing on rockfish, calico bass and smaller yellows. We also caught a beautiful wsb on the edge of the kelp. The south end was poor and working up the lee we saw lots of life. We had fun catching calico bass, bonito and some smaller yellowtail. All in all a fun day and lots of fishing time. Thanks again to Debbie from Meals on Wheels for putting together another great charter and doing some great work for people of the community. We will be leaving Friday on an 8 day BFT tagging trip. Wish us luck and for the BFT to finally bite good so we can get some tags out.
