Qualifier 105 arrived at Pt. Loma Sportfishing November 11, after a ten-day trip with 22 anglers, nearly all of them San Diego firemen. Skipper Brian Sims docked the boat and weighed the biggest fish.
On November 7th, Sims wrote, "We ended up accomplishing most of what we wanted.?? We had a pretty good day for Wahoo.??There were a few guys that in fact who had a really good day for the Wahoo!?? It will probably come as no great surprise for those that know Kenny Mochuzuki that he ended up with three nice Wahoo for the day.?? Others that also had a good day on the Wahoo were Cliff Joralmon (3), Eric Rheinhardt (2) and Brian Anderson (2).??
"Also, we had one passenger that came all the way from Ohio (after he was talked into the trip from one of our crazy fireman) to catch some fish of a lifetime.?? He said something about being tired of catching perch in the lakes around his house.?? Anyway, when he caught his first Wahoo ever today you might say he was totally stoked about the whole ordeal.?? So he took about a five-minute break and went right back out there and caught another Wahoo.?? At that point I thought we were going to have to pull out the defibrillator and resuscitate the guy.?? He has already put a deposit down for next year.
"On the Yellowfin side, the early evening proved to be the time to have a whack at the bigger fish.?? There were in fact quite a few opportunities, but our largest fish were in the range of 30 to 45 pounds.?? The largest one went to Adam Masuda."
Dale Wischow of Simi Valley won first place, for a 51-pound wahoo. He said it was his bet ever, and came on a sardine and a 5/0 Eagle Claw hook. He fished with 40-pound P-Line, an Accurate 665 reel and a Calstar 700 H rod. It fought for 20 minutes, he added.
Kenny Mochizuki got second place for a 49.8-pound skinny, and Brian Anderson won third place for a wahoo of 46.4 pounds.
